Polish president wishes Jews a happy new year

Polish President Andrzej Duda has sent greetings to members of his country’s Jewish community as it celebrates the holiday of Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year.

In a message posted on his website, the Polish president said: “On the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, I convey my best wishes of health, peace and all prosperity to the Jewish community living in Poland.

"May a joint celebration of the feast in your families, among friends and loved ones bring you lots of happiness and ensure spiritual harmony, good and comfort."

Duda added: "May the joy which is present at your homes during the celebration of the New Year accompany you every day and radiate to all future projects with the benefit for the whole Republic of Poland." 

The Jewish New Year is a two-day celebration. This year it begins at sunset on Friday, Sept. 18, and ends at sunset on Sunday, Sept. 20.
