Football: Lech Poznań reach Europa League group stage, Legia Warsaw knocked out

Polish football side Lech Poznań have reached the Europa League group stage with a 2-1 win over Belgian outfit Royal Charleroi on Thursday.

Spanish midfielder Dani Ramirez scored the 1-0 lead for the Polish club in the 34th minute of the match in Charleroi, Belgium, and Tymoteusz Puchacz added another in the 41st.

The goal for the Belgian side came from Senegalese Mamadou Fall in the 56th minute.

Lech maintained the lead and won the game despite conceding a penalty and losing a player to a red card in the second half.

Meanwhile, Polish champions Legia Warsaw were eliminated from European competition after losing 0-3 to Azerbaijan’s Qarabag Agdam in their single-leg Europa League round four qualifier on Thursday.

Football experts at home praised Lech for withstanding the pressure in the away game, while slamming the Warsaw team for suffering a humiliating defeat to the visitors from Azerbaijan.

The Europa League group-stage draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.
