The reading was higher than forecast by analysts, who had expected an increase of 13.5 percent, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

In month-on-month terms, Polish industrial production in March was 18.6 percent higher than in February, the Central Statistical Office said.

The Polish Prime Minister's Office welcomed the latest figures, saying the country's industry was showing "strong and stable performance" despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The office also said that the growth of industrial production in Poland in March "exceeded all expectations."

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, industrial production in Poland rose by 4.3 percent in February, the sixth-fastest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
