Poland plans massive cash injection for libraries

The Polish government has announced plans to allocate more than PLN 1 billion (EUR 220m, USD 263m) over several years to upgrade libraries and encourage people to read books.

Culture Minister Piotr Gliński said that reading “supports social development and strengthens the national identity – that is why promoting it is a priority goal."

The new National Reading Development Programme for 2021-2025 expands on a previous such initiative which ran from 2016 to 2020.

Poland has over 2,500 public libraries, public broadcaster Polish Radio reported.
