The 29-year-old Pole overpowered the 19-year-old American 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 in their first-round women's singles match at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in the British capital on Wednesday.

Linette, who is ranked world No. 44 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), will next face the winner of a match between Ukraine's Elina Svitolina and Belgium's Alison Van Uytvanck.

Meanwhile, Poland’s Iga Świątek has booked a spot in the second round of the women's singles at Wimbledon with a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win over Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei on Monday.

She next takes on Russia's Vera Zvonareva for a place in the third round.
