New Polish coins celebrate Beijing Olympics

Poland's central bank has issued two new collector’s coins to commemorate the upcoming winter Olympics in Beijing, China.

The limited-edition coins, which enter circulation on Thursday, are billed as the "Polish Olympic Team Beijing 2022" series.

The PLN 200 "gold coin features the silhouette of a ski jumper surrounded by sparkling snowflakes," according to the National Bank of Poland (NBP).

Meanwhile, the PLN 10 "silver coin depicts a short-track speed skater" on the reverse, while "the obverse shows an image of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, one of the buildings at the Temple of Heaven complex in Beijing."

The bank says it is offering a total of 1,200 "gold coins," each with a face value of PLN 200 (EUR 44, USD 50), for purchase by collectors at a "gross price" of PLN 3,900 per piece.

Meanwhile, the circulation of the PLN 10 "silver coin" will total 15,000 and the price per piece is PLN 160, according to the nbp.pl website.

The coins can be purchased at the bank's regional branches and its kolekcjoner.nbp.pl online store.

The 24th Olympic Winter Games will be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20.
