Ukrainian forces holding out in Severodonetsk: officials

Ukrainian forces are successfully holding back the Russian assault on the strategic city of Severodonetsk, Ukraine’s army command said on Wednesday.

In its daily operational update, posted on Facebook, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced: “In the Severodonetsk direction, our soldiers are successfully holding back the assault in the city of Severodonetsk, and hostilities continue.”

On Tuesday night, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that “the absolutely heroic defence of the Donbas continues,” euronews.com reported. 

Severodonetsk is the largest remaining Ukraine-held city in the Luhansk oblast, which is part of the eastern Donbas region.

Russia is currently focusing its efforts on capturing the entirety of Donbas, military analysts said.

Russia's losses in Ukraine: 31,500 soldiers, 1,393 tanks 

As intense fighting continues, Ukraine’s army command on Wednesday reported that Russia had so far lost some 31,500 troops and 1,393 tanks during its invasion of Ukraine.

Wednesday is day 105 of the Russian assault on Ukraine.
