Reports of activity of Russian Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers and ships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles in the Black Sea appeared on social media platforms, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

Residents of Ukraine were asked to hide in shelters and not to publish information about air defense activities.

Air defenses shot down targets over Ukraine's capital city of Kyiv, where an air alert was triggered Monday morning by high Russian air activity. There are also reports of explosions in Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy regions.

The air alert was declared in the east and center of the country before 4 am local time. In the western regions of Ukraine, sirens wailed about half an hour later.
