Of the new cases confirmed on Sunday 1170 were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which contains the national capital Warsaw , 1096 new infections were reported in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań. The southern coal mining region of Silesia had some 900 of new infections confirmed by officials on Sunday.
The health ministry announced Sunday morning that over 19 thousand COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 1,900 of them on ventilators, with a further 253 thousand quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure, and over 12 thousand under epidemiological supervision.
Meanwhile, 706,720 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
