Poland confirms 6,796 new coronavirus cases, 429 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 6,796 new coronavirus infections and 429 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,792,142 and fatalities to 67,502.

Of the new cases confirmed on Friday, 1,041 were in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

Meanwhile, 803 new infections were reported in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznańhad the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Friday, at 724.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 300 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 129 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Thursday, Poland confirmed 541 deaths and 8,427 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 636 deaths and 8,895 fresh cases day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

23,469 in hospitals, 197,693 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Friday morning that 23,469 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 2,831 of them on ventilators, with a further 197,693 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,496,810 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 13,970 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
