Poland to shorten gap between doses of COVID vaccines

Poland has decided to shorten the gap between administering the first and second doses of Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca COVID vaccines to 35 days, officials said on Monday.

The prime minister's top aide, Michał Dworczyk, who is spearheading the country's inoculation drive, said the change would come into force on May 17.

Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are currently given out in Poland 42 days apart, while the gap between AstraZeneca shots is 82 days.

The change in rules comes amid a stepped-up vaccination campaign in Poland.

Officials on Monday reported 2,032 new coronavirus infections and 22 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,835,083 and fatalities to 70,034.
