Poland reports 1,230 new coronavirus cases, 135 more deaths

Poland on Thursday reported 1,230 new coronavirus infections and 135 more deaths, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,869,652 and fatalities to 73,440.

Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, 185 were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

Meanwhile, 133 new infections were reported in the densely populated southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

The western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań, had the third-highest number of new infections confirmed by officials on Thursday, at 130.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 105 people with pre-existing medical conditions and 30 who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 209 deaths and 1,267 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 151 deaths and 1,000 fresh cases a day earlier

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country more than a year ago.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

6,377 in hospitals, 79,008 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 6,377 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 873 of them on ventilators, with a further 79,008 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,632,483 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, including 1,902 over the last 24 hours, the health ministry also said.
