Poland reports 147 new coronavirus cases, 24 more deaths

Poland on Thursday reported 147 new coronavirus infections and 24 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,336 and fatalities to 74,917.

Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, the most—19—were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 20 people with pre-existing medical conditions and four who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 35 deaths and 165 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 29 deaths and 188 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,219 in hospitals, 59,403 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 1,219 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 201 of them on ventilators, with a further 59,403 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,045 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
