Poland confirms 133 new coronavirus cases, 36 more deaths

Poland on Friday reported 133 new coronavirus infections and 36 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,470 and fatalities to 74,953.

Of the new cases confirmed on Friday, the most—29—were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 30 people with pre-existing medical conditions and six who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Thursday, Poland confirmed 27 deaths and 147 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 35 deaths and 165 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,157 in hospitals, 57,708 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Friday morning that 1,157 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 185 of them on ventilators, with a further 57,708 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,209 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
