“I had a long and good conversation with the Italian Prime Minister, primarily on the security issues, the energy system and European unity in the face of threats from the East,” Morawiecki told reporters afterwards.
He added: “We also discussed issues related to the Polish-Belarusian border.”
Morawiecki also said he had spoken to Draghi about "manipulations over gas prices" and the European Union’s emissions-trading system (ETS).
He added they had explored “ways to lower the prices of gas.”
Risks from the East
Morawiecki also told the media that his meeting with Draghi had focused on illegal migration.
“Europe must be able to safeguard the security of its borders; it’s important that we in the North Atlantic pact are all on the same wavelength,” he said.
With regard to Russia, “I told Prime Minister Draghi that the EU’s sanctions must be concrete, and the prime minister obviously agreed,” Morawiecki added.
He told reporters that Italy echoed Poland’s “extreme concern” that Russia may be considering an invasion of Ukraine and, like France and Germany, it shared Warsaw’s conviction that “we must not allow ourselves to be blackmailed.”
In all, “it was a very good conversation between two countries that treat each other as partners, but also as friends,” Morawiecki said.
