Poland in deal to become regional LNG hub

Poland, Ukraine and the United States signed a memorandum in Warsaw on Saturday, pledging to work together to enhance energy security in Central and Eastern Europe.

The deal sees Poland move a step closer to becoming a liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter in the region.

“Poland will thus be able to not only satisfy its own energy needs but also help out with deliveries to Ukraine as well as other countries in Central and Eastern Europe that have been dependent, like Poland, on monopolistic practices,” said Piotr Naimski, the Polish government's pointman on strategic energy infrastructure.
