A total of 145,600 housing units were completed nationwide between the start of January and the end of September, the office said on Tuesday.

It added that the number of housing starts in September was 10.8 percent higher than in the same month last year and 10.4 percent up on August.

Overall output in Poland’s construction-and-assembly sector rose by 7.6 percent in September in year-on-year terms, while shooting up by 12.7 percent month on month, the state-run statistics agency reported.

According to a recent study, Poland is building the largest number of new dwellings in Central Europe, but not enough to meet demand.

There is still a shortage of around 2.1 million housing units in Poland, according to estimates by real estate experts HRE Think Tank.
