Despite the coronavirus crisis, sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics shot up by 15.8 percent in Poland last month in year-on-year terms, and those of clothing and shoes rose by 5.3 percent, the state-run statistics agency reported.
Among other goods, sales of food, beverages and tobacco products edged down by 1 percent, while sales of fuels decreased by 2.8 percent, according to the Central Statistical Office.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 2.7 percent higher than in July 2019, the statistics office also said.
It added that, in month-on-month terms, retail sales in July were 6.5 percent higher than in June.
As the economy emerges from the COVID-19 shutdown, industrial production rose 1.1 percent in July compared with the same month a year earlier, the Polish statistics office reported on Thursday, adding to hopes of a brisk recovery from the coronavirus disruption.
