Poland’s National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management has earmarked PLN 500 million for subsidies of up to PLN 18,750 (EUR 4,200, USD 5,000) for customers buying electric vehicles.

For families with a large number of children, a subsidy of PLN 27,000 is available.

Cars purchased with the state subsidy are to be registered in Poland and the new owners cannot sell the vehicles for two years after the date of purchase.

For now, the subsidies are only available to individual customers, but companies, institutions and local governments will be able to apply in the future, according to officials.

Deputy Climate and Environment Minister Ireneusz Zyska said last week that the aim of the programme was to reduce harmful emissions, develop environmentally-friendly transport and improve Poles’ quality of life.
