The Bobrowniki crossing in north-eastern Poland, alongside Kuźnica Białostocka, resumed operations earlier the same day after years of closure.
From 2 pm, Polish Border Guards began using the Entry/Exit system, collecting biometric data from non-EU travelers entering Poland and the wider European Union.
This involves fingerprint scans and facial photographs, aimed at quickly verifying identities and strengthening border security, according to General Sławomir Klekotka of the Podlaskie Border Guard.
The enhanced measures are part of a broader system combining physical barriers, electronic surveillance, and an increased number of border personnel, which authorities say now allows safe reopening of these crossings.
Customs rules for travelers crossing from outside the EU
Officials also reminded travelers of customs regulations.
Those entering Poland from outside the EU may bring limited quantities of tobacco - such as 40 cigarettes, 20 cigarillos, 10 cigars, or 50 grams of smoking tobacco - and alcohol, including 1 litre of spirits over 22% or 2 litres under 22%, 4 litres of wine, or 16 litres of beer.
Cash movements of €10,000 or more must be declared in writing, and animal products such as meat and dairy remain prohibited from non-EU countries.
Gifts and souvenirs are VAT-exempt up to €430 for air and sea transport, or €300 for land crossings.
