Poland’s Chief Sanitary Inspector Jarosław Pinkas said on Tuesday: “If you don't get yourself vaccinated you’re being selfish.”
He added: “There are people who have immune deficiency and cannot take advantage of this form of preventing illness, while diseases for which there are vaccinations can be deadly to them.”
Only 3.9 percent of Poles were vaccinated against influenza during the last flu season, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Meanwhile, over 4.6 million cases of influenza and flu-like infections were reported in Poland last season.
Almost 18,000 people were taken to hospital and 150 people died of complications, according to IAR.
