Public health authorities said that the daily number of COVID-19 vaccinations across the country totaled 162,796. They added that 17,963 adverse reactions had been reported among those who received the jabs by Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 743,048 doses have been wasted in the rollout, according to the Polish health ministry.

As of Saturday, Poland, a country of around 38 million, had injected almost 22.3 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while over 21.7 million people had been fully inoculated, health ministry data showed.

The tally includes two-dose vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca as well as Johnson & Johnson's one-shot vaccine.

The European Commission last month granted conditional marketing approval to the Nuvaxovid COVID‑19 vaccine developed by Novavax, the fifth COVID-19 vaccine authorised for use in adults across the European Union.

Poland on Saturday reported 51,695 new coronavirus infections and 231 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 4,804,390 and fatalities to 105,138.

On Friday, children aged 11 to 15 were given the green light to sign up for COVID-19 booster shots as the country enters a fifth wave of the pandemic.

Poland last month launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive for children between the ages of five and 11.

At the start of November, third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were made available to all adults.

The booster shot is administered at least five months after full vaccination, using Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines.

By Saturday, a total of 9,897,574 booster shots had been administered, government data showed.

Thirty-eight percent of Poles are in favour of potential plans to introduce compulsory vaccination against COVID-19 for everyone in the country, a recent survey has found.

Meanwhile, 43 percent of those polled opposed such a step, according to a report by state news agency PAP.
