Public health authorities said that 18,199 adverse reactions had been reported among those who received the vaccines by Friday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 788,420 doses have been wasted in the rollout, according to the Polish health ministry.

As of Friday, Poland, a country of around 38 million, had injected over 22.47 million first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while more than 22 million people had been fully inoculated, health ministry data showed.

The tally includes two-dose vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca as well as Johnson & Johnson's one-shot vaccine.

The European Commission in December granted conditional marketing approval to the Nuvaxovid COVID‑19 vaccine developed by Novavax, the fifth COVID-19 vaccine authorised for use in adults across the European Union.

Poland on Friday reported 23,990 new coronavirus infections and 304 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 5,519,282 and fatalities to 109,509.

Children aged 11 to 15 were last month given the green light to sign up for COVID-19 booster shots as the country entered a fifth wave of the pandemic.

In December, Poland launched a COVID-19 vaccination drive for children between the ages of five and 11.

At the start of November, third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were made available to all adults.

The booster shot is administered at least five months after full vaccination, using Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna mRNA vaccines.

By Friday, more than 10.86 million booster shots had been administered, government data showed.
