"On the evening after Bayern's 2-0 home victory over Wolfsburg, Robert Lewandowski underwent surgery on his left groin, with the op deemed a success,” Bayern said on its website.

It added that the Polish sharpshooter “has now been ordered to rest for a few days.”

Lewandowski, who has been in sublime form this season, ended the first half of the German Bundesliga campaign at the top of the goal scoring charts, on 19 goals.

According to the uefa.com website, the Pole is set to win the race to become the top scorer playing in Europe for club and country in 2019, with a total of 54 goals from 58 games.

He tops a stellar cast including Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, on 50 goals for the calendar year, and PSG’s Kylian Mbappé, with 44 goals.

The Pole also leads the race for the European Golden Shoe award for the top scorer of the 2019/2020 season, ahead of Timo Werner of German side Leipzig and Ciro Immobile of Italian outfit Lazio, according tuefa.com.
