French Open: Poland’s Świątek storms into women’s doubles semifinals

Poland’s Iga Świątek and Nicole Melichar of the United States have made it into the semifinals of the women’s doubles competition at the French Open tennis tournament in Paris.

The Polish 19-year-old and her US doubles partner saw off the all-American pairing of Asia Muhammad and Jessica Pegula, 6-3, 6-4, in their quarterfinal match on Wednesday.

Świątek and Melichar will now face Chilean Alexa Guarachi and American Desirae Krawczyk for a place in the final at the Grand Slam tournament in the French capital. 

Poland’s Świątek on Tuesday cruised into the semifinals of the French Open women's singles, notching up her best Grand Slam result so far.
