Miami Open: Poland’s Świątek enters women’s doubles semifinals

Poland’s Iga Świątek and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States have advanced to the semifinals of the women’s doubles competition at the Miami Open tennis tournament in the US state of Florida.

The Pole and the American cruised past Ukraine’s Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, 6-1, 6-4, in their quarterfinal clash on Wednesday.

Up next for the Polish 19-year-old and her US doubles partner at the Miami Open are Japanese players Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama.

In the women's singles, Poland’s Świątek was knocked out of the Miami Open in the third round last week by Ana Konjuh of Croatia. The rising Polish tennis star lost 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.

In the men's singles, meanwhile, Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz has advanced to the quarterfinals, where he will face second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece for a place in the final four.
