The award ceremony took place in Barcelona, Spain on Wednesday after the Polish goal machine was earlier this year named the top scorer in Europe's biggest football leagues last season, with 35 goals for Germany’s Bayern Munich club.

The Polish marksman, who now plays for Spanish giants Barcelona, won the annual European Golden Shoe award for the second time in a row, finishing well ahead of the rest of the pack.

PSG's French star Kylian Mbappe finished No. 2 in the race for the top scorer of the 2021/2022 season, with 28 goals, ahead of Lazio's Italian forward Ciro Immobile and Real Madrid's Karim Benzema tied in third place, each with 27 strikes.

Lewandowski was in May crowned the top scorer of Germany's Bundesliga premier league for the 2021/2022 season, his seventh such trophy in Germany, where he played until the end of last season.

The 34-year-oldwho captains Poland’s national team, in January won world soccer governing body FIFA’s 2021 Best Men's Player award, beating Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Egypt's Mohamed Salah.
