Polish gov’t backs minimum wage hike

Poland’s government has endorsed a plan to increase the country’s minimum wage to PLN 3,000 (EUR 660, USD 800) a month as of January.

Meanwhile, the minimum hourly rate would go up to PLN 19.60 (EUR 4.30, USD 5.25) effective January 1, officials said on Tuesday.

The proposed figures are still subject to consultation with the government’s social partners as part of the Council for Social Dialogue, state news agency PAP reported.

The country’s minimum monthly wage rose to PLN 2,800 (EUR 620, USD 750) at the start of this year, from PLN 2,600 in 2020.

Meanwhile, the minimum hourly rate in Poland is currently set at PLN 18.30 (EUR 4.15, USD 4.90), up from PLN 17 a year earlier.

The average gross Polish monthly wage in April was PLN 5,805.72 (around EUR 1,285, USD 1,570), the state-run Central Statistical Office (GUS) announced last month.
