This year’s Tour de Pologne will be more than 1,200 km long and take place from July 30 to August 5. Eleven Polish cyclists are among those expected to compete.

The seven-stage race will start in the south-central city of Kielce and end in Kraków in the south of the country, race director Czesław Lang, a former professional cyclist, has said.

The first leg of the annual race will see cyclists cover a 218.8 km route starting in Kielce and ending in the eastern city of Lublin.

The remaining stages of the 79th Tour de Pologne will end in Zamość, Przemyśl, Sanok, Rzeszów and Bukowina Tatrzańska before the race concludes in Kraków.

The biggest names among this year's riders include Olympic champion Richard Carapaz of Ecuador, Britain's Mark Cavendish, and Spaniard Pello Bilbao.

Portuguese rider João Almeida won last year's Tour de Pologne.

Ahead of this year's race, organizers have condemned "Russia's unfounded aggression" against Ukraine.

Top Polish rider Michał Kwiatkowski, who won the 2018 Tour de Pologne, was ruled out of this year’s edition of the race due to a knee injury, officials said on Friday.
