Marcin Przydacz made the remarks to reporters on the second day of his visit to the United States, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Refugee support and energy security
He told a news briefing in Washington on Wednesday: “In all my discussions here, there was an appreciation of Poland’s role in the region in two respects: welcoming refugees and … our preparations in terms of energy security.”
Ukraine and NATO’s eastern flank
Przydacz said that his talks in Washington had focused on “regional security and the need to keep supporting Ukraine, as well as the eastern flank of the NATO alliance.”
His schedule on Wednesday included meetings with US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, State Department Counselor Derek Chollet, and President Joe Biden's senior national security official for Europe, Amanda Sloat, among other officials, the PAP news agency reported.
Push for bigger US troop presence
Przydacz noted that the US House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a USD 40 billion aid package for Ukraine and NATO allies affected by Russia's war, saying the vote demonstrated “the commitment of the political class to supporting Ukraine and the countries on the eastern edge of NATO.”
He also told reporters that Poland was advocating for a stepped-up presence of US troops on its soil, adding that he discussed this topic with Pelosi.
Wednesday was day 77 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Poland on Wednesday reported it had welcomed nearly 3.3 million refugees fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
