A charity drive held by public broadcaster Polish Radio before Christmas raised PLN 121,730 (around EUR 26,000, USD 27,650) in funds to help those in need, including sick and disabled children from Ukraine, executives have said.

A variety of items donated by showbiz celebrities, artists and sports stars were auctioned on air and online to benefit the needy as part of the annual Polish Radio 1 fundraiser, which was held for the 21st time.

Showbiz personalities, sports celebrities and public figures, including First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, supported this year’s Choinki Jedynki campaign by donating some rare and attention-grabbing items.

On Tuesday, a concert featuring teenage star Viki Gabor wrapped up the fundraising effort.

Funds raised through the Choinki Jedynki drive will go toward a charitable foundation run by well-known actress Anna Dymna and called Mimo Wszystko (In Spite of Everything).

Half the funds raised this year will go to help sick and disabled children from Ukraine, executives said.
