The strikes on Kharkiv and other targets took place on Thursday night and early Friday morning, news outlets reported.

There was no immediate information on casualties as air raid sirens sounded in much of Ukraine and officials and local residents reported hearing loud explosions.

Serhiy Lysak, the military administrator in the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, said Shahed drones were detected on their way to the province, according to Britain's The Guardian newspaper.

The Dnipro Info channel on the social messaging app Telegram urged inhabitants to “Get to shelters and stay there.” It said at least one drone was shot down, The Guardian reported.

The strikes also hit multiple targets in the northeastern Sumy region, with reports of people injured and buildings damaged, the Ukrainska Pravda website reported.

Meanwhile, there were reports of drones heading towards the southern city of Mykolaiv, as well as drone attacks in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region and explosions in the Ukrainian-controlled cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, close to the embattled town of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk province, according to officials.

In addition, 30-40 Iranian Shahed drones were launched from the occupied southern port of Mariupol towards Ukrainian-held areas, according to unconfirmed reports, The Guardian wrote.

The overnight strikes came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visits to London, Paris and Brussels, where he met Europe’s leaders and made an address to the European Parliament.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials and Western analysts said Russia had launched a new offensive in the Luhansk province in eastern Ukraine, including a major assault around the town of Kreminna.

Friday is day 352 of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
