Poland reports 100 new coronavirus cases, 21 more deaths

Poland on Saturday reported 100 new coronavirus infections and 21 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,569 and fatalities to 74,974.

Of the new cases confirmed on Saturday, the most—12—were in the eastern province of Lubelskie, which is home to the major city of Lublin.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 16 people with pre-existing medical conditions and five who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Friday, Poland confirmed 36 deaths and 133 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 27 deaths and 147 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,082 in hospitals, 58,801 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Saturday morning that 1,082 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 171 of them on ventilators, with a further 58,801 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,360 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
