Poland confirms 104 new coronavirus cases, 16 more deaths

Poland on Wednesday reported 104 new coronavirus infections and 16 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,912 and fatalities to 75,021.

Of the new cases confirmed on Wednesday, the most—16—were in the central region of Mazowieckie, which includes the national capital Warsaw.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 13 people with pre-existing medical conditions and three who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Tuesday, Poland confirmed 23 deaths and 126 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with no new deaths and 52 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

924 in hospitals, 74,745 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Wednesday morning that 924 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 153 of them on ventilators, with a further 74,745 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,787 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
