Poland reports 98 new coronavirus cases, 23 more deaths

Poland on Thursday reported 98 new coronavirus infections and 23 more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,880,010 and fatalities to 75,044.

Of the new cases confirmed on Thursday, the most—15—were in the southern coal-mining region of Silesia.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are 16 people with pre-existing medical conditions and seven who died directly because of COVID-19, the Polish health ministry said.

On Wednesday, Poland confirmed 16 deaths and 104 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 23 deaths and 126 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

855 in hospitals, 78,577 quarantined

The Polish health ministry announced on Thursday morning that 855 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 130 of them on ventilators, with a further 78,577 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,906 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
