Poland confirms 71 new coronavirus cases, five more deaths

Poland on Sunday reported 71 new coronavirus infections and five more deaths related to COVID-19, bringing the country's total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,879,638 and fatalities to 74,979.

Of the new cases confirmed on Sunday, the most—11—were in the western province of Wielkopolskie, which is home to the major city of Poznań.

The latest deaths in Poland’s coronavirus outbreak are five people with pre-existing medical conditions, the Polish health ministry said.

On Saturday, Poland confirmed 21 deaths and 100 new coronavirus infections nationwide, compared with 36 deaths and 133 fresh cases a day earlier.

On April 8the country reported its highest daily toll of 954 deaths related to the coronavirus.

On April 1, the Polish health ministry confirmed 35,251 new single-day cases, the most since the pandemic hit the country early last year.

Poland's first case of coronavirus infection was reported on March 4, 2020.

1,050 in hospitals, 60,566 quarantined

The health ministry announced on Sunday morning that 1,050 COVID-19 patients were in hospitals nationwide, 171 of them on ventilators, with a further 60,566 people quarantined for possible coronavirus exposure.

Meanwhile, 2,651,522 people have now recovered from COVID-19 throughout the country, the health ministry also said.
