Wife of political prisoner Marina Adamovich received first letters from Mogilev from her husband, jailed presidential candidate, Mikola Statkevich.
Mikola Statkevich who is serving a six-year sentence because of his political activity in Belarus, had been transferred to Mogilev colony number 4 in mid-January from Shklov colony. In Shklov, the court decided that Statkevich “violates” the rules of the prison and decided to toughen his prison conditions. In effect, he was sent to regular prison in Mogilev.
Statkevich was put in solitary confinement shortly after he arrived in Mogilev. His letters to Marina Adamovich were written immediately after he left that solitary cell.
Statkevich wrote a.o. that the documents form Shklov stated that he was "inclined to attack" and "to escape". As far the conditions in prison are concerned, he wrote that there is a daily hour-long walk in the prison yard, “accompanied” by dogs. He jokes about it: "But you know that I love dogs”, he wrote to Adamovich.
Statkevich asked his wife to thank the people who support him during his detention: "tell them that their words are in my heart".
